Our first viral music video, Carl and I created a concept for our good friend, Charlotte Sometimes. This girl has a voice that will make you quiver, it's so good. Her new single, "Stay in my heart" is representative of a relationship in which she is staying with her man because she is used to and comforted by having someone who loves her. The truth is that she does not feel the same way about him. This duel parallel led us to create a narrative built around her subconscious emotions. Carl directed and shot the entire film, I took care of wardrobe/ set design/ (production design i suppose). Thank you to everyone else who worked/helped out, hair stylist: Jeffery Feldman, all of Charlotte's family: Hartson Poland,Tracy Poland: Charlottes love interest: Scott Laudati; the ballerinas: Erin Pasko, Brianna Casuccio, Alexa Casuccio; video/Production assistants: Frank Cento, Anthony Arfi, Brian Marrone, Scott Loper. Many other people/retailers helped to make this possible and i will name them all on the finished video.

The story:
She starts at her vanity in a room, the ballerinas emerge and dress her up. Start doing her makeup and brushing her hair, she starts singing. When the music stops the walls of the room fall down and reveal the woods. The ballerinas stand her up and start walking her through the trail. The ballerinas are following her, they are her protectors, the inner workings of her mind. As she is walking she see's a man, her lover. The ballerina's react and start blocking her from him by elaborate dances. He keeps trying to reach her, there is one chance and he pulls her hand through the ballerinas wall. They start running to the water at the end of the trail. He grabs the luggage on the beach and sprints with her to a boat. He pushes them off and everything seems alright. The ballerinas catch up swimming to them. They pull him out off the boat and throw the luggage everywhere. She is left on the boat accompanied by the wet and disheveled ballerinas, her subconscious.

Carl photographed Architecture for CMJ music blog, the show was ridiculous, packed out to the brim, powerful, beautiful, everyone was having a good time. I got to take a few shots as well which is always fun. Architecture may be one of the greatest live performances I've seen in awhile. They were all so lively, some choreographed dance numbers, and every song sounded just as good or better then the record. The people in the crowd were eating them up, dancing, jumping, sweating. I met a really nice kid and his mom who drove all the way from Philly to see them, true dedication. A few brooklynites behind us were bringing the rage, and I don't think there was one person who wasn't smiling ear to ear. these aussies know how to make music and bring the cute and the dance.

life is hectic. retracing my steps.

I met with a wonderful young musician, Clay Garner, who can sing in fluent mandarin and will be shipping off to Japan at the end of the week for some press, and music deals. He is extremely talented and couldn't be a nicer guy. I did some personal shopping for him and styling for his upcoming trip!

later that night, I had the pleasure of working with one of my good friends, another talented musician, Charlotte Sometimes. I pulled a beautiful dress from Caycee Black's fall collection for Charlotte's Rock Talk performance at Feinstein's at the Regency Hotel. Channel 7 Eyewitness News Anchor and 2011 Emmy Award winning Phil Lipof sat down with Charlotte Sometimes to discuss her career and listen to her perform some of her newest songs. The event was sponsored by Gibson Guitars and Baldwin Pianos.

The Dodos at the Music Hall

Yesterday, After my meeting with Caycee Black, Carl and I had a lunch meeting with our talented friend, Charlotte Sometimes. We discussed upcoming music videos and photo shoots over margaritas and delicious chicken/steak quesadillas.

After our lunch Carl and I headed to the heart of Williamsburg. He photographed the Dodos for CMJ music blog while I danced and made new friends.

While waiting for the dodos their opening band Gauntlet Hair got the crowd going. I was surprised with a name like gauntlet hair that thier music would hold such pop. My mind was quickly categorizing them into some Warrior metal hair band but that is definitely not the case. Something of a heavy drum base, psych rock band and although I'm not positive what they were singing about they definitely kept a beat. The Dodos have come a long way since the first album, "Beware of the maniacs," which is what originally hooked Carl and I. The drum based duo started with some tracks from their new album, "No Color" easing their way into some old time favorites, "Red and purple" and "Fools", from the much acclaimed, Visiter. Over all it was a good show. I met an Melbourne based jewelry designer and a few of his friends who were all sweethearts. I will hopefully be pulling some stuff from his line in the future. check his stuff out at corkysaintclair.com

Hello Caycee Black

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Caycee Black's partner Jenny, while she is off in China for a business trip. She filled me in on how Caycee developed these artistically mesmerizing collections. The Brooklyn based designer has a unique way of combining all her talents. She utilizes small elements from her love and relationship with ballet, a simple scoop neckline to a lace Up legging pattern and builds the clothing patterns from her paintings. I walked into her showroom and was completely attracted to the clothes and once I found out they are more then just clothes, I fell in love. I am very excited to be pulling clothes from her line for upcoming shows and events.

Yes, I'm absolutely sure this is the profession for me, right now.

I took my love for photography, broke it down, the creativity, the imagination, the camera, the people, and the clothes. The clothes. I sat back, repeated the statement in my mind. It clicked, refreshed me, an ice pop for my over heated extremely stressed graduate mind. Why not attack life from all sides of the spectrum, just because I graduated with photography doesn't mean I have to pursue it solely.

this past week has been crazy, carl and i ran around the city gathering supplies, fabrics, beads, authentic african chest pieces, it all came together in one long all-nighter, me and my sewing machine and carl as my model and moral support (to make sure i didn't fall asleep). but alas a beautiful creation, Neon Hitch's stage outfit for bamboozle. success.

then i proceeded to get sick, as usual.

i install my show on Wednesday. 9am. shaking.

it is already the midpoint of my last semester in college. and it has been a very rough one. this is the last time i will call this mountain town my home. after my car accident i missed about 2 weeks of school and then i became extremely ill and missed another week. four studio classes and one history class, i may collapse with the overload. playing catch up has never been such an intense trip. with spring break one week away i am trying to get all the work from those weeks completed. along with applying for jobs and planning my future.

on a much lighter note, this is a small bit about why i make artwork, enjoy:

Art has been a constant part of my life since I was very young. It has always acted as an escape from the harsh realities around me. I was primarily a painter until I came to college where i discovered photography. Photography became a tool in which i could achieve a feeling of "reality" within my imaginary spaces. All of my work is personal, somehow related to an experience or a feeling. Many of them rooted in childhood fantasies and the extension of the subconscious into the conscious world. I believe that any type of expression is beautiful and necessary to further understand yourself and the world around you. My work is constructed, I like to believe all things are possible when creating an image. Recently I have been experimenting with reincorporating drawing and painting in to my images. It lends a hand in making images one of a kind which is something all paintings have in common. I make art because it is one of the few things that truly makes me happy and able to cope with the world around me.

i went home for valentines weekend.
took a lot of photos, modeled in the cold,
my charming boyfriend treated me to dinner
a mano, a quaint osteria on the north fork
delicious, montepulciano d'abruzzo
romantic.

i drove up to school on valentines day
ten minutes from the exit i hit a patch of ice
i always heard that in car acidents, time stands still
i would explain it differently, time does not exist
i could feel the back wheels skid and the car start to spin
and in one moment my mind stopped, the car in full motion
my mind calmly said "you cant do anything"
and i knew that i was going to flip, words seem to fall short
it becomes blurry, a foggy morning, or when you first wake up
eyelids half shut, trying to make out the patterns in your comforter
my memory falls short, i don't know if i closed my eyes,
if a pssed out, if i just blocked it out,
but the last thing i remember is the sound
the crash of my passanger side hitting the ice wall,
in the middle of the thruway, a small glacier.

im lucky, im lucky, im lucky
that is what i should be saying
strange when i wonder to myself how the hell am i alive
and unharmed? a concussion and whiplash, but that is all
there is not one bruise on my easily bruising body, a peach
i opened my eyes, covered in coffee from that morning
the radio was still on, singfangbous,
much louder then my ears could handle
and quiet at the same time, i sat, and my mind spoke again
"you are alive, i am alive"

my front bumper was in the road
my seatbelt still hugging my body
i sat still for awhile, what i thought was awhile
until i heard them banging at my window
three strangers, three men i didn't know
my car did a 360 flip over the ice
i landed in the snow, a white pillow,
the same monument that broke me, saved me.
the snow prevented me from escaping my wreck
triggering the waterfalls,
i sat hysterical as these men shoveled me out
they were speaking, quickly,
"are you alright?"
"did you hit your head?"
"do you have a concussion?"
"how do you feel?"

i couldn't stop sobbing, a broken faucet. confused and disoriented.
one of the men, tall, bald, green eyes, caring eyes
he reminded me of a dad or a doctor, or my stepfather
someone who cares. he said, "give me your head, lean forward"
and in that moment i thought i must be hallucinating
but i willingly leaned forward,
he placed his right hand on my forehead
my mind was quiet again, im sure the other men were as confused as i
it seemed so long i leaned in and he held me up with his palm
he pulled away and said, "you will be fine, you're alright"
it was calm, until the sirens and lights arrived
loud and terrifying, an arsenal to save me from my crash
i started moving toward them, difficultly through the snow
before i made much progress the bald man gave me his card
a business card i suppose, but unlike any business card i have seen
a hand with light streams bursting from the center
reaching off the page, his name in one corner
and the back, the same image, one word in capitals:
"NOW"

i'll finish later, my head is exploding.

there was only one day last week where i wasn't traveling... long island to the city to new paltz and back again and then finally all the way up to utica. Friday night carl (boyfriend) and i went into the city to see our friend Mike del Rio play bowery ballroom. it was an amazing show, carl took some photos and i took some video. a complete success. afterwords we stopped by "home sweet home" to meet up with one of my best friends who lives in nyc. aside from the smell of BO it was a nice change to intentionally do the monkey and other iconic 70's dances. finally made our way to the after party at hotel chantelle (spelling?) grabbed a drink, did a little dance. exhausted we went home.
